Task Forces

Global Partnerships

In pursuit of it’s international, mission-driven mandate the AUPresses Board initiated the Global Task Force. AUPresses has explored this issue previously via a single-year pilot global partnerships programme.  Building upon the lessons learnt from that experience, the intention of the task force is to identify the appropriate models for collaboration with nascent and established university presses in the Global South. This initiative will aid the broader aims of increased bibliodiversity and the improved representation of global scholarship.

The Task force has begun an analysis and devising a support programme of three partner-presses in sub-Saharan Africa who will hopefully be able to join AUPresses as members.

  1. Map the university press landscape in the Global South
  2. Assist with identifying and facilitating relationships with key strategic partners in the region – publishing associations, national libraries, national research bodies, international publishing organisations
  3. Consider the most equitable models for collaboration between AUPresses, its members and presses in the Global South, recognising the different contexts for the different regions of the Global South
  4. Propose a capacity building programme for selected UPs to ensure sustainability

University Press Week

University Press Week was a successful promotion of how our community StepsUP. We had another record-breaking year featuring 123 member press submissions of books, journals, series, and other initiatives to our gallery; a schedule of more than 25 national and international, in-person and virtual university press events; and a robust blog tour that addressed who, what, when, where, and how our presses StepUP every day. Updated publisher resources including publisher, bookseller, and social media toolkits allowed presses to plan their participation and promote their work. Top-market media outlets that supported University Press Week with complimentary ads include Dissent, New York Review of Books, New Left Review, Harper’s, London Review of Books, and Publishers Weekly. Publicity highlights include Bloomberg Businessweek, C-Span, The Chicago Tribune, Groks Science Radio, Publishers Weekly, and broadcast media in Chicago, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. TeamUP is the theme of University Press Week 2025 and the task force is working excitedly towards another successful celebration!
